I’m Laura
Hello, I'm Laura
I overcame my anxiety with the help of VRIT and can now focus on my career as a professional dancer in London. Six months ago, I was at a rehearsal for a major London theatre production and the choreographer harshly criticised my performance. I took this very personally, and found myself unable to focus and deliver the performance I knew I could give the following week.
I felt unable to share my anxiety with anyone and found myself not sleeping well, my appetite seemed to have disappeared and even my relationship with my boyfriend began to suffer.
I went to see my GP and he immediately suggested medication but I do not believe in anti-anxiety drugs and turned him down. A friend of mine suggested therapy instead and recommended Raymond. I didn’t know anything about counselling or psychotherapy and even less about virtual reality immersive therapy when I first called him. But those few minutes on the phone with Raymond changed my life.
I came to the clinic for an assessment, shared my story with him and felt for the first time in a long time I was really being listened to and understood. Using virtual reality immersive therapy, we could really challenge my anxiety in a safe place and explore together why I felt this way. Over a few sessions, Raymond gave me the confidence to reaffirm my love of dancing and re-engage with my choreographer and co-dancers and cast members.

Therapist’s Commentary
When I first met Laura, I could see at once she was in a state of worry. My first task was to give her space to share her story, enabling her to feel safe and to be honest without fear of judgment and criticism. I needed to create rapport as soon as possible.
Laura presented classic signs of generalized anxiety disorder (she was suffering from insomnia, she had poor concentration, she was irritable, easily tired, and she had muscle tension).
I wanted to reinvent the therapeutic space with Laura and use virtual reality immersive therapy to let her re-engage with her creative process safely in her own time and her own pace and achieve a tangible outcome. In just a few sessions, she was able to make significant progress and really embrace the virtual stage we created together and fully overcome her anxiety.
