I’m Anne
Hello, I'm Anne
For my 40th birthday my husband Tom wanted to take me on a well-deserved long holiday in the Caribbean sun. As much as I loved the idea and was desperate to get away from my group GP practice in Cardiff, my overwhelming fear of flying had literally grounded me for the past several years.
I refused to take a plane ever since I saw on the news that a passenger plane had disappeared over the Pacific and all 362 passengers were presumed dead in the incident but no bodies were ever recovered.
As a clinician, I knew that my thoughts were irrational, and this trip meant that once and for all I had to do something about it. Peter, my fellow GP from our practice told me about the VRIT clinic in London as a fast and efficient alternative to conventional psychotherapy.
I did my research, and on the face of it, this seemed like a genuine opportunity to overcome my fear. Plus, I was intrigued by the process.
Raymond was very kind and created a safe space in which it did not take long for a strong rapport to develop between us. As a bonus, I got to try out a whole range of ancillary support technology, including Alpha-Wave-Stimulation which helped to suppress my cortisol levels without medication.
The world is now my oyster and I plan to make up for lost time with many more holidays overseas.
Therapist's Commentary
It was a pleasure meeting Anne as a fellow clinician, as she acknowledged that her fear of flying had no real rational bearing. She told me herself that more lives are lost in car accidents than on airplanes and that does not prevent her from driving.
She was also very enthusiastic about embracing new technology as her own medical practice was at the forefront of medical data science and wearable technology to assist with diagnostics and treatment. She took a particular interest in her biofeedback results and felt she should integrate this protocol within her own practice.
She now sends me postcards from all the exotic locations she has visited to date.
